INTERVIEW “I JUST LOVE HAIR” with Cyrus
Where do you live? Shatin. What languages do you speak? Cantonese, English and Mandarin. When did you realise you wanted to become a hairdresser? When I was a student I watched a hair show and I knew right then I must become a part of this industry. How long did you train and with whom? I’ve worked closely with many of the Artistic Directors in the top salons in Hong Kong over ten years. Every client is so different. I am still learning from Emmanuel who has a unique technique. What is the best aspect of being a stylist? I love understanding people’s different personalities and also meeting so many people from all over the world. How does Asian and Western hairstyling different ? The texture is the main difference. Asian hair is thicker and stronger so you have to make more layers and thin it to create movement. Western hair is thinner has less volume on the roots which we can also help with.

How did you get into photography? I assisted a really talented Chigago photographer while still in college. Then after graduating Columbia College I joined the US Navy as a photographer and that's where it all began! What style are you shooting at the moment? I still shoot a lot of black and white body shots. My favourite photos at the moment are from my new series of Boracay. Where is your fav place to shoot? I like some of the smaller islands in Sai Kung. Weekday mornings allow for a bit more privacy. I also frequently use the lantau waterfall. Who is your dream subject? My dream model Du Juan. She is part of the new breed of top models coming out of China which is breathtaking. What makes a good photograph? A good shot comes from a mutual respect of each others talent. I have a passion to shoot beautiful things, usually people.
